DAV Marshfield Van Relocates

In Memory of Joe “Doc” Altmann

On March 25, 2019, the DAV Marshfield Van relocated to the Wood County Annex and Health Center at 1600 North Chestnut Avenue in Marshfield. Previously, the van had been located at the Aging Disability Resource Center (ADRC) at 300 South Peach Avenue in Marshfield.

The Marshfield Van began operating in January 2010. Annually, it takes more than 600 veterans in the Marshfield/Central Wisconsin area to their scheduled VA medical appointments, free of charge.

On October 17, 2015, the current van was dedicated to U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Joe “Doc” Altmann in a ceremony at the Marshfield Public Library. Altmann, a Marshfield native, died on December 25, 2011 in Kunar Province in Afghanistan. He was a combat medic.

The van was relocated due to parking limitations at the ADRC. All ambulatory veterans with VA medical appointments are eligible for rides. The van mainly transports veterans to the Madison and Tomah VA Medical Centers, and the CBOCs in Wisconsin Rapids, Owen, and Wausau.

For rides or to volunteer as a driver, call 608-504-1313. Van does direct service to/from veteran’s home or Target at 1706 North Central Avenue in Marshfield.
