Report of the DAV Wisconsin Media Committee

Upon the request of Media Committee Chair Al Labelle, the following is respectfully submitted as the Media Report for the State Convention.

The DAV Wisconsin Media Committee continues to find creative and interactive ways to reach members of the organization and community with the use of the state website, monthly electronic newsletter, media outreach, and social media.

The state website,, continues to be updated on a regular basis. We would like to thank all the individuals who have contacted us throughout the year and advised us of changes that needed to be made. We continue to make improvements to the website thanks to the assistance of Mike Berrand, owner of Artifact Digital Media, LLC. We have also started to use the “News” section of the website to highlight stories from the monthly electronic newsletter.

The monthly electronic newsletter continues to be published using Constant Contact. To date we have 3,195 active contacts. Our current six-month average for open rates (the number of individuals opening the newsletter versus the number of newsletters sent) is 21% and our click rate (the number of links clicked throughout the newsletter) is 16.5%. The average industry rates as of March 2020 were 16.74% and 7.43% respectively, which exemplifies the positive impact the newsletter continues to have on those receiving it.

This year we also did a special newsletter, “Disabled Veterans Need Your Support,” which was sent to the Senate Leader, Speaker, Representatives, and Senators. This multiple VSO electronic newsletter urged the support of our elected officials to support Assembly Bill 88/Senate Bill 116 and had a 54% open rate. We would like to thank the VFW and American Legion Wisconsin Departments for their partnership on this important legislation.

DAV Wisconsin continues to increase its social media awareness by being involved on the Facebook and Twitter platform. Currently, Facebook has 2,387 page “likes” and 2,530 followers. We average 15 new likes or followers per week and are reaching an average of 497 users per post. Posts are done several times per week. In early June 2019, we also launched the DAV Wisconsin Transportation Facebook page. Currently the page has 179 page likes and 183 followers. If you have not done so already, please consider “liking” our page and helping us grow!

Lastly, DAV Wisconsin has continued to utilize media outlets to spread awareness and support of disabled veterans and their families. This continues using billboards, TV commercials, and partnerships with the Green Bay Packers and Gamblers Hockey Team. The work of the media committee is never done, but we continue to find, and implement, ways that will increase awareness of DAV Wisconsin.

Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, it was disappointing the Convention was canceled, but everyone’s health is our #1 priority. Hope to see everyone at Fall Conference. Stay safe!
