Each year the Disabled American Veterans Department of Wisconsin provides public recognition to employers that demonstrate, by their employer policies and hiring practices, an effort to provide suitable employment to veterans and disabled veterans within their organization. While evaluating the nominees, the DAV Employment Committee considers many factors to determine the suitability of the nominee for one of these awards. In addition to reviewing the employer’s policies and hiring practices, the level of responsibility and duties of the disabled veteran hired is also considered. The evaluation criteria include the strength of the company’s veteran recruitment and hiring efforts, retention and career building opportunities. The DAV Employment Committee’s employer selection this year is Century Foods International. Eleven percent of new hires last year were veterans.
Tait Strand, DWD Marathon County Workforce Development Center is this year’s Local Veteran Employment Representative (LVER) Year. The Disabled Veteran Outreach Program (DVOP) Representative of the Year selected is David Walters, Dane County Workforce Development Center. Both received recognition at the DAV Banquet.
